I have a 2006 V6, with just under 120k km on it as of writing this. I was wondering if it were perhaps time to go and perform the deed soon, as part of regular preventative maintenance.

Have any of you been doing this? Have done this? How often is it recommended for our cars?

I've done both. If you're swapping ignition coils, get the Weapon X/Sniper coils.

Preventative maintenance suggests doing plugs at 96,000km (I believe)...or maybe it's 120k. Either way, you're due for a change.

I swap out plugs at 130,000 because of a misfire and one coil because it went bad. Everything is good still. I am at 158.xxx.

Yeah I figured I"m up for a change. Was going to swing it until the warmer weather came around, I figure another couple thousand KMs aren't going to kill me. Was definitely going to go with the Weapon X coils and NGK Iridium spark plugs.

Replaced 1 coil/wire/plug assembly.
Had the service engine light come on....took it to dealer and they replaced the coil/wire/plug assembly.....I only have 55 000 kms so shouldn't need them yet.
I am not sure they needed replacing though because it may have just been a misfire code.
The light came on when I was messing around with my son coming home one day on the highway (he has an 04 Tiburon) and I put the auto stick in manual mode, but being use to automatics that shift UP when pushed forward ....I banged it off the rev limiter for a little bit...not long.
The crazy thing is....I did the same thing again more recent and wouldn't you know it,the light came on again....so for the heck of it I removed the positive cable for a while, then hooked it back up....no light now and have put a few hundred kms.

other than that,no other problems.

Just got a set of WeaponX spark plugs (the safe bet replacement in heat5), and will be doing this soon. I guess I need to get some kind of gapping tool as well..

What gap should we be setting our plugs on...

As for the coils, I will probably just get the WeaponX coils from Paul, although he already has around 50k km on them...hopefully they are still in good working condition. If they are built to OEM standards, it should still be better than my own stockers which are at 120k...

Opinions...

Thanks again for all the info. I went out today and bought one of the two dollar coin-look-alike gapping tools, and ordered a new set of weapon x coils.

Been debating making the retaining brackets for the coils as per the thread on 6Crew, since I tend to be a bit paranoid with almost any aftermarket item I put on my car.

OH, and anyone know to what tension the spark plugs themselves are supposed to be torqued to..
